How to Keep your Basement Dry

Dry Basements

Kansas City is known for their four seasons, a few of which can bring some heavy rains. Just when Kansas City homeowners think they are no longer in thunderstorm season and rainfall has stopped,  your basement is guaranteed to stay dry. We then change seasons and need to focus on snowfall and the steps to take to prevent this melting snow from entering into your basement.  To add the cherry on top, we have droughts, extremely dry weather, and the freeze/thaw cycle that can bring some unpredictable water into a basement.

Water in your basement can lead to serious foundation problems. Both new and old homes are susceptible to water damage. The problem is, there are multiple ways for water to get into your basement. Luckily, we have a solution for them all!

Some common foundation problems include:

  • Water leaking over the top of the foundation
  • Leaking floor cracks
  • Water seeping between the basement wall and floor
  • Leaking wall cracks
  • Leaking doors and windows

If any of these signs are present in your home, it is best to get them looked at immediately to prevent further water or foundation damage. The quicker you can fix the source of the problem, the more money it will end up saving you in the long run. Depending on the situation, you can fix these problems with a few different techniques. Minor cracks can be fixed with epoxy crack sealing where epoxy is injected to form a water barrier. Larger problems should be fixed with a waterproofing barrier.

What Makes Our Basement Waterproofing Better?

At PierMagic®, we engineered our own waterproofing systems to keep water out of your basement permanently. Each situation is different and that’s the approach we choose to take. We examine what is causing the leak and recommend the best solution for each specific scenario. In a perfect world, every home’s foundation would have consistent moisture content in the soil.

The way we obtain this goal is by installing a waterproof barrier around the home and replacing the soil with a footing drain and gravel. This will leave enough soil on top for vegetation and landscaping. The last thing you want is for water to gather around the home’s foundation and that is exactly what we will prevent. Our waterproofing barrier also removes the pressure on the foundation wall which will prevent the foundation from eventually shifting. If you allow the foundation to shift, even just a little, you are more likely to experience cracks.
